Brambling Breakfast

Three records in the garden so far this year, well separated in time but all have been females so potentially the same bird. Not found one away from the house yet so a useful self-finding tick just in case there are none later in the year, as they have not been particularly numerous for a while. Garden Mig yields

This time of year is fantastic! The birds come to you.....25 minutes in the back garden and I was lucky enough to bag 2 Brambling flying SW… a SFYT. Also Redpoll, Siskin, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Reed Bunting, Redwing and Song Thrush.
One day I will get an Ouzel..........

Not a bad start...

At the end of day four, my total stands at 71, which is approximately 71 more than at this stage last year. Just working the local area - the Potton/ Sandy/ Biggleswade triangle - has allowed me to 'find' the majority of the commoner species. Highlights so far include four Ravens over West Sunderland Farm; a Brambling at an allotment near Potton and a shamelessly-tresspassed but tactically-astute found Woodcock.

I really like the challenges within challenges this year: waders, wildfowl, passerines...I may even have a shout on the latter. I'll just need to remain focussed and find a spring Wood Warbler, passage Black Redstart or better.

Brambling

It was rubbish for them during the first winter period, but promises to be better during the second. Not entirely unexpected, a vis-mig Brambling this morning at The Lodge takes my total to 123.
